Murray Smith
(FEB 14 1989)
runtime: 23y

Murray Smith is a critical thinker by nature, an avid cinephile by nurture, and an enthusiastic filmmaker by consequence. He's largely a film formalist, and has a shared passion for photography, writing and (especially) editing—not to mention film theory in general. Some key topics/influences include: philosophy, holism+holography, contrast, ambiguity, film noir, surrealism, David Bohm, Tati, Altman, Linklater, and Kubrick. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies from the University of Calgary in 2011. He also works as the Administrative Coordinator and webmaster for the Calgary Cinematheque, and volunteers frequently within the local film community.
Otherwise, he loves to learn, philosophize and develop+design web sites/systems. At his core is a Gen-Y apprentice who loves to experiment—from formal writing to tournament paintball to hobby electronics. He has a vested interest in new media / digital cinema since he thinks it brings new meaning to the term cinematic 'depth'—however, he's always had a fond appreciation of film on celluloid, and believes one of cinema's greatest attractions is the brick-and-mortar theatre experience (and especially the accompanying discussions)!
